Post scratch Dave goes to visit a retirement home (for whatever reason) and Poppop John is there. Dave sees and remembers him, and he keeps coming back everyday to visit and talk with him (but doesn’t bring up the game or try to make him remember him). Then one day he goes to visit and John’s dying, but waiting for him with a smile. He dies while talking with Dave, and his final words are about how happy seeing Dave has made him, and he wishes how he could have been his friend when he was younger. 

I want this to break my heart, but still be super sweet and leave me sobbing “They were the best of friends!”

It’s not my prompt, but all this post-scratch sadstuck that is popping up in a lot of places is making me absolutely giddy (after it tears my heart apart). If it makes you giddy as well, I think you’ll agree that this prompt needs to be filled. The very concept of it is absolutely precious.
